A Followup on “Gas Works Park”
Andy Beel (an inspiring photographer who has a portfolio of excellent black and white works and who is an expert on converting color pictures into black and white) has kindly pointed out in his comment on “Gas Works Park” (see my blog below) that those HDR images of the Gas Works Park are lack of the contrast needed for strong black and white photography. I fully agree with him. Now I converted two other pictures of the park into black and white. This time, after the pictures were given the same detail enhancing treatment in Photomatix, I applied the “harsh structure” preset in Nik Software’s Silver Efex Pro 2 (as a plugin in Lightroom) and then some brush work to brighten up certain dark spots. The results may not be strong enough, but would make the HDR images in my earlier post pale in comparison.
